Aldo Musacchio (Stanford University Ph. D., 2005) published Experiments in Financial Democracy: Corporate Governance and Financial Development in Brazil, 1882-1950 with Cambridge University Press, 2009. Since July 2009 has been Associate Professor of Business and Marvin Bower Fellow at Harvard Business School. Previously was an Assistant Professor of Business Administration, Harvard Business School (since July 2004).

The study of history is not designed simply to teach us quaint and interesting facts about the past, or even to explain how our present world emerged from its murky origins in other times or places. It is a useful subject in ways that students may not always anticipate, but which employers often understand, and which our alumni can explain best. There is no single path that carries history undergraduates directly to one chosen career, but many ways in which skills learned in the study of the past can be translated into the enterprises of the present.

Each year, the department admits a limited number of undergraduates to its program leading to a co-terminal A.B. - A.M. degree in History. The application deadline will be December 4, 2012 for co-terming in the 2013-2014 academic year.

The first step in becoming a History major is finding a Faculty Advisor. The best way to find an advisor is simply to take a variety of History courses, drop in during faculty office hours (posted in the History Department main office), and introduce yourself as a prospective History major. Faculty are happy to suggest coursework and to offer counsel.
The History Department Fellowship offers 5 years of financial support to PhD students. The fellowship provides support for tuition and a stipend. The funding package includes a combination of fellowship stipends, teaching assistantships (TAships), and research assistantships (RAships). Currently, the fellowship includes support for 4 summers.
