Ph.D. Minor in History
Stanford graduate students pursuing a Ph.D. program other than in History may apply for the Ph.D. Minor in History.
Degree Requirements
- The minimum University requirement for a PhD minor is 20 units of History coursework at the graduate level (courses numbered 300 and above) at Stanford.
- All units should be in a single field of study. We offer 14 distinct fields of study.
- Units taken for the Ph.D. minor can be counted as part of the overall requirement for the Ph.D. of 135 units done at Stanford.
- Courses used for a minor may not be used also to meet the requirements for a master's degree.
- Stanford Ph.D. students cannot pursue a minor in their own program.
- A Ph.D. minor form outlining the program of study must be approved by the major and minor departments.
Please review policies and requirements in the Ph.D. Handbook and on Stanford Bulletin.
Funding
Ph.D. minors do not receive funding from the History Department.
