Jacob Soll (USC), "Free Market: The History of an Idea"

Jacob Soll’s new book, Free Market: The History of an Idea, revisits the intellectual history of the free market, tracing an innovative lineage from Cicero to Jean-Baptiste Colbert to Adam Smith and later redefinitions by Milton Friedman and others to understand how we arrived at its present meaning. In the process he overturns what we thought we knew about this essential but protean concept.

In this seminar, Professor Soll will discuss the implications of this new way of conceptualizing the relationship between the state and the market.  RSVP to andreip [at] stanford.edutarget="_blank" to attend the seminar and to receive a pre-circulated book chapter.
