Memories of the War in Mexico Tenochtitlan

Kevin Terraciano (UCLA) discusses indigenous codices describing the conquest of Mexico to unearth indigenous memories of the war in Mexico Tenochtitlan.This presentation is part of the History Department's Trauma and History Winter 2018 Workshop: Plague, Fire, War, and Rebellion.

Kevin Terraciano is Professor of History, Director of the Latin American Institute, and co-chair of the Latin American Studies Graduate Program at UCLA. Terraciano specializes in Latin American history, especially Mexico and the Indigenous cultures and languages of central and southern Mexico (especially Nahuatl, Mixtec, and Zapotec) in the colonial period. Professor Terraciano is the author of the award-winning book, The Mixtecs of Colonial Oaxaca, recently translated into Spanish by El Fondo de Cultura Económica, among other books and research articles. He has received many prizes for his research and publications, and for his teaching and graduate mentoring and is the foremost translator of indigenous chronicles of the period.
