Jewish Lives biography series has been awarded the 2014 National Jewish Book Award

The Jewish Lives biography series published by Yale University Press, a collection of volumes now numbering more than twenty and edited under the supervision of Steven J. Zipperstein and his Israeli colleague Anita Shapira, has been awarded the National Jewish Book Award and named the best Jewish books of the year.  This is the first time that National Jewish Book Award, in existence for half a century, has named a book series as its winner.  Zipperstein is a previous recipient of the National Jewish Book Award for Elusive Prophet: Ahad Ha'am and the Origins of Zionism (1993); his Rosenfeld's Lives:  Fame, Oblivion, and the Furies of Writing (2007), was shortlisted for its prize in biography, memoir and autobiography.
