The Value of Your Vote: A Roundtable Discussion on Political Participation in 2020 and Beyond

On October 17, 2019, the Department of History co-sponsored a roundtable discussion with journalist/educator Jelani Cobb and Karine Jean-Pierre, Chief Public Affairs Officer for MoveOn and an NBC/MSNBC Political Analyst. Moderated by Professor Allyson Hobbs , the conversation focused on why voting matters, the history behind electoral politics, what Stanford students can do to increase political participation and become educated voters, and how one can tackle voter suppression and preserve the U.S. democracy. More than 150 students attended the event, asking questions and expressing that they left feeling informed and inspired. The event was part of  StanfordVotes/Get Out the Vote efforts and was organized in collaboration with the Haas Center for Public Service, School of Humanities and Sciences, Department of Communication, African & African American Studies, Graduate School of Education, Stanford In Government, and the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education.
