Noah Sveiven | Honors Research - Columbia University Rare Books and Manuscripts Library (New York, NY)
My research trip to New York City was a success. I conducted archival research at the Rare Books and Manuscripts Library (RBML) at Columbia University for two weeks. All my items were from the David Hamburg papers including administrative documents, memoranda, and correspondence, in addition to many pages of handwritten notes. I learned a lot more about David Hamburg and the events that are the subject of my thesis. The experience itself was gratifying, and the findings will serve as essential evidence for the arguments of my thesis.
My entire experience with my honors thesis research— the guidance of my advisors Professors Caroline Winterer and Jessica Riskin, the archival research I have conducted both at Stanford Special Collections and at Columbia’s RBML, the sheer joy and challenge of the writing and revising process— has convinced me to apply for graduate programs in history during the fall 2024 application cycle.
