Bailey Martin

Bailey Martin is a PhD student in the U.S. field with research interests in slavery and slave rebellion during the Age of Revolution. Using a comparative historical approach to bridge United States, Caribbean, and broader Atlantic history, her research aims to interrogate the interlocking imperial, economic, cultural, and social networks that characterized 18th- and 19th-century Atlantic slave societies and informed enslaved peoples’ armed resistance against European colonial and imperial governance. Bailey is also committed to public history, higher education policy, and making historical research accessible and engaging for public audiences.

At Stanford, Bailey is also an Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education (EDGE) Fellow and a Humanities and Sciences Dean’s Scholar. As a proud first-generation college graduate, she is eager to offer solidarity and support to other FLI (first-generation, low-income) students.
