Bella Shahani
B.A., University of Southern California
Bella Shahani is an MA student specializing in early modern political history, with a focus on early modern Britain. Their current research interests focus on English intelligencing and diplomacy with the Ottoman, Safavid, and Mughal Empires in the 16th and 17th centuries. Their most recent research examined English intelligencing on and diplomacy with the Safavid Empire between 1511 and 1603.
Before joining Stanford, they received their B.A. from USC with a thesis on the comparisons between Charles I and other victims of regicide during the English Civil War. In addition to their thesis, they did research on food and power in Henry VIII’s court and Sir Thomas Roe’s embassies to Mughal India and the Ottoman Empire.
