Ciel is a PhD student in the History of Science. Fascinated by human-plant relationships, she is focusing on Early Modern North American and European understandings of plants. Her research explores indigenous and European understandings of the plant world as well as the overlapping concepts of science and aesthetics. She received her MA in History from McGill University in 2023, where she completed a thesis on the botanizing of women and the implications of empire in the development of science through the archives of Elizabeth Gwillim. She produced a short series podcast Letters Home on these archives and is interested in combining her academic efforts with public history modalities.
