Gabriel Garnero's research explores the diachronic transformation of social-ecological systems, with a particular focus on the complex histories of water, river systems, and biodiversity. His current projects examine the historical interplay between biophysical and social dynamics, enhancing our understanding of environmental change and sustainability.

He is an active member of SOLCHA (Latin American and Caribbean Society of Environmental History) and a founding member of CONATURAR (Nature Contributions to People in Argentina), an innovative initiative aimed at fostering interdisciplinary approaches to the relationships between biodiversity, sustainable development, and environmental justice in Argentina.
