Rachel Hendrix

Rachel Hendrix is a first-year PhD student in the African history field, with a focus on West Africa. She is interested in the role of women in negotiating with colonial powers and effecting political change on local and state levels from the eighteenth through the twentieth centuries. Her undergraduate research explored the untold story of Amba Sewa, a female chief and indirect ruler in colonial Ghana, and her work is forthcoming in the Journal of West African History. With experience teaching high school World History, she hopes to contribute to the development of African history curricula at all levels of education.
