Nathan Deschamps

Nathan Deschamps is a PhD student in Early Modern European History. His focus is the emergence of commercial society and the history of capitalism in Europe. His current research looks at the relationship between morals, cultural practices, and political economy. He is especially interested in the way this relationship informed European economic thought, policy-making, the criminalization of poverty, and imperial expansion.

Before beginning at Stanford, he completed a BA at the University of British Columbia. During his undergraduate studies he was a visiting student at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin and at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. He then completed a Master of Research (MRes) in Cultural, Intellectual and Visual History at the Warburg Institute in London.
